ARTIST STATEMENT on:
‘ABSOLUTE ABSTRACT PREGNANT SPACE’ 2021

In my personal perception the notion of ‘Absolute Abstract Pregnant Space’ is created on paper. When I tear at a particular angle at intervals into paper, which is already painted on both sides in gouache paint with different colours (my preference) it creates an ‘in-between’ visual space amongst the positive/present painted surface and the negative/absent torn missing space, (in sculpture we all know it as ‘Void’). If one adds orange colour to the rim of the torn edge inside on the thin paper, be it circular, rectangular, or any flat form, it creates a paper-thin negative/absent space inside the torn form. It is this twin space created ‘in-between’ by the semi-controlled tears and the conceptual space which is pregnant within the painted edge.
Moreover this semi-controlled physical process of tearing into paper blossoms into ‘Absolute Abstract Pregnant Space’, visual entity. This is unlike the ‘Abstract Art’ as traditionally known in Eastern Art, eg Tantric Art in India; Art in China; Japan; or the Western Art in Europe, eg Malevich, Kandinsky etc and America’s, particularly the ‘American Abstract Art’ in the 20th Century. This is a man-made ‘Absolute Abstract Pregnant Space’ visual entity.

Absolute Abstract Pregnant Space’, in a field of Coloursis a conceptual concept. Painting on both sides of a given paper with gouache paints, with spontaneous and instinctive colour combinations in unique juxtapositions, analogous to our finger prints. Moreover, within these colour compositions; removing physically or tearing into the paper one creates an invisible space. By highlighting the torn edges with colour, what emerges is,’Absolute Abstract Pregnant Space’. This unique space is also absolute and abstract, impregnated into the colour fields/compositions, seen from both sides. Thus – Absolute Abstract Pregnant Spaceis born in a field of Colours
